Teach Cyber is an initiative of DARK Enterprises Inc. DARK Enterprises Inc. is a non-profit dedicated to developing, supporting, and stewarding excellent cybersecurity education at the secondary level. Our mission is to provide resources, training, and support to secondary school educators teaching cybersecurity.

A New CISSE Initiative

Bring K–12 cybersecurity educators into the conversation.

CISSE and DARK Enterprises are developing a dedicated K–12 experience as part of the 30th Colloquium, combining professional development, scholarly exchange, and opportunities for educators to build lasting collaborations.

The initiative is intended not only to provide programming for high school cybersecurity educators, but also to introduce K–12 practitioners to CISSE’s publication pathway and scholarly community.

Through partnerships, writing circles, mentoring, and collaborative authorship, participating educators can help establish the contributor base and publication framework for an expanded K–12 presence within CISSE.

Teaching AI + Cybersecurity in the High School Curriculum

Technology is most beneficial when users understand both its capabilities and its limitations, and recognize that every system can fail, be manipulated, or attacked. We have created a series of lessons inviting students to look “under the hood” of AI to explore how data, models, and system infrastructure work together to produce decisions and where vulnerabilities can emerge.

Participants will be introduced to the cross-cutting concepts that shape a cybersecurity mindset, as defined in the CSEC 2017 curricular guidelines and CSEC Foundations Supplement.

Nancy Stevens

Data Specialist & Curriculum Creator, DARK Enterprises

Nancy has developed curriculum for Teach Cyber and the Catalyzing Computing and Cybersecurity in Community Colleges (C5) projects and contributed to research, evaluation, and GenCyber initiatives. She previously taught AP Computer Science Principles, Python Programming, and introductory computer science.

Founder, DARK Enterprises

Melissa has worked in cybersecurity education for more than 26 years, spanning graduate, community college, and high school education. She founded DARK Enterprises in 2015 to advance cybersecurity education development, assessment, research, and knowledge transfer.

Mark Emry

Mark Emry

Cybersecurity & Computer Science Educator

Mark is a retired high school educator with 32 years of experience in computer science and cybersecurity education. His work includes Teach Cyber, GenCyber, the National Cybersecurity Teaching Academy, AP Computer Science Principles, and development of high school cybersecurity curriculum guidelines.

Publication Pathway

Share what works in your classroom.

CISSE is exploring a dedicated publication pathway for K–12 cybersecurity educators, including the possibility of a future special issue or additional annual volume focused specifically on K–12 cybersecurity education.

Publication Opportunity

The 30th Colloquium provides an opportunity to begin building this community now.

K–12 educators are invited to submit through the existing CISSE Call for Papers by September 15. Accepted K–12 papers will be grouped into dedicated presentation sessions during the Colloquium.

All submissions remain subject to CISSE’s established peer-review and acceptance process; submission does not guarantee acceptance or presentation.

A proposed one-day registration rate for eligible K–12 educators participating in the K–12 program.

Register

Registration for in-person attendance is managed through our member portal.

Travel Support

DARK Enterprises Travel Scholarships

DARK Enterprises plans to offer $200 travel scholarships to up to 20 high school teachers attending K–12 Day.

Travel scholarships are offered and administered independently by DARK Enterprises and are separate from CISSE registration and conference finances. Eligibility and application details will be provided by DARK Enterprises.
