About the Journal

Overview

The Journal of The Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education is the peer-reviewed academic publication of The Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education (CISSE). Since its founding in 1996, CISSE has served as the longest-running community dedicated to advancing cybersecurity education, research, and workforce development.

The Journal of The Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education publishes scholarly work that strengthens the global cybersecurity education ecosystem, with emphasis on:

  • Emerging research in information systems security and cyber defense
  • Innovation in cybersecurity pedagogy and curriculum design
  • Workforce development and capacity-building initiatives
  • Policy, governance, ethics, and the broader societal implications of cybersecurity
  • Applied research integrating AI, automation, and emerging technologies into education and practice

Our mission is to advance open, high-quality research that improves how cybersecurity is taught, learned, and applied across academia, government, and industry. We are committed to fostering a diverse, collaborative, and interdisciplinary community of educators, researchers, students, and practitioners.

As part of CISSE's long-standing commitment to access and transparency in cybersecurity education, The Journal of The Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education operates as an open-access journal. All accepted papers are available at no cost to readers, and authors retain full copyright of their work. While the journal does not charge publication fees, submissions are drawn from peer-reviewed papers presented at the annual Colloquium, ensuring a rigorous, community-driven publication process.

The Journal of The Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education remains dedicated to expanding global access to cybersecurity knowledge, strengthening pathways into the cyber workforce, and supporting the development of educators and researchers who shape the future of the field.

The Journal uses the print manuscript as the single production source for both its print and open access PDF editions. As a result, PDFs contain copyright or pricing statements originating from the print edition. These markings do not reflect the current open access policy. A cover page has been added to each PDF stating the correct licensing terms. All journal articles are © their respective authors and licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), regardless of any footer text appearing later in the file.

Aims & Scope

The Journal of The Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education publishes research, case studies, and pedagogical advancements that shape cybersecurity and information assurance education.

Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Cybersecurity education and pedagogy
  • AI and automation in security curricula
  • Workforce development and training
  • K–12 and community college pathways
  • Security policy, governance, and organizational practice
  • Ethical, legal, societal, and human-centered dimensions
  • Emerging technologies and their impact on security education

The Journal of The Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education serves researchers, educators, practitioners, and policy leaders shaping the cybersecurity workforce and academic ecosystem.

Peer Review Policy

The Journal of The Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education operates a peer review process. Each manuscript is evaluated by at least two independent reviewers with expertise relevant to the submission. Review criteria include originality, relevance, methodological quality, clarity, and contribution to cybersecurity and information systems security education.

Editorial decisions include: Accept, Accept with Minor Revisions, Revise and Resubmit, or Reject.

Final acceptance decisions are made by the Editor-in-Chief with consultation from the Editorial Board.

Author Guidelines

The Journal of The Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education considers manuscripts that have been accepted for and presented at The Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education.

Requirements

  • Original, unpublished work (parallel submissions are not accepted; pre-press / personal site postings are permitted)
  • Manuscripts must use the IEEE Manuscript Template
  • Include adequate citations and DOI URLs for references where available
  • All images, graphs, and tables must be original and high-resolution (300 dpi minimum)
  • Papers must be anonymized for double-blind review or will be rejected
  • Final accepted drafts must include ORCID numbers for all authors
  • At least one author must present the work at The Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education (in person)

Statement of Fees (APC Transparency)

The Journal of The Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education does not charge article processing charges (APCs), submission fees, or publication fees.

Publication is free; however, eligibility for publication requires that the paper be accepted for and presented at the annual Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education, which has a registration fee (adjusted annually) per presenting author.

No additional editorial or publication costs are incurred by authors.
